Alexander von Humboldt (1769–1859) experienced first-hand the epochal transformation process that Europe and the world underwent between the Age of Enlightenment and the industrial era. His research, travel and boundless curiosity helped to interlink various geographical areas and intellectual topics.

This lecture will offer insight into Humboldt’s importance in terms of the our increasingly networked modern world, and his search for his own identity in such revolutionary times. This event will draw on information from the book “Alexander von Humboldt”, published by Professor Daum in 2019 to mark Humboldt’s 250th birthday.

This lecture will be delivered by Professor Dr. Andreas W. Daum, Professor of History at the State University of New York, Buffalo, USA.

Event language: German

The lecture series "History at the City Hall" is organized by the city of Stuttgart and the Historical Institute at the University of Stuttgart.
