If the following criteria apply to you, then you are:
- You are enrolled at a partner university of the University of Stuttgart in your home country.
- You want to study for one or two semesters at the University of Stuttgart.
- You can prove grades of C or above
Application process
The application procedure for exchange students from overseas consists of five steps:
Deadlines:
April 1 (for the following winter semester), October 1 (for the following summer semester)
Please contact the International Office of your home university to complete this step before proceeding to Step 2.
Deadlines:
May 1 (for the following winter semester), November 1 (for the following summer semester)
As soon as you have been nominated under Step 1, you will be provided with the link to the Mobility-Online portal. Please upload the following documents to the registration platform:
- Proof of German language skills
- Proof of English language skills
- List of courses (if you are interested in English taught lectures)
- Passport sized photo
Please note:
We can only accept a proof of language skills according to the classification scheme of the European Reference Frame (ERF). If necessary, please ask the language center of your home university to assign you to the equivalent language level using the ERF framework.
Deadlines:
June 1 (for the following winter semester), December 1 (for the following summer semester)
After completing your registration on the Mobility-Online platform you can apply for admission as a non-degree program student via our web-based application system C@MPUS.
The C@MPUS portal will be open as of beginning of May/November.
To ensure a successful application process, we strongly recommend that you follow C@MPUS guideline, which can be found in your download area in Mobility-Online
Follow the instructions given and upload:
- Transcript of records
- Higher education entrance qualification
- APS document from students of chinese unviersities only
If your online application is completed correctly by the given deadline, you will be able to download your letter of admission (Zulassungsbescheid) on the C@MPUS platform. In case you need to apply for a student visa, please submit the letter of admission to the German consulate along with the other required documents.
Pre-departure information
Once you have downloaded your letter of admission, please read our Pre-departure information. It covers all the important information you need to get ready, including how to get health insurance, set up a bank account and enroll once you are here.
Please continue with the enrollment procedure after your arrival in Stuttgart via your C@MPUS applicant account. Please remember that you will be asked to pay a semester contribution at the time of enrollment. The bank details required for payment of fees will be found in your C@MPUS account.

*There are only a small number of English-language Bachelor courses at the University of Stuttgart. Participation in English-language international MSc courses is possible.
In principle, all (individual) language certificates from the sending university (Home university) are accepted.
However, only language certificates that contain an indication according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (ERF) can be accepted.
If necessary, ask the test provider directly or the language center of your home university for a conversion of your language skills in accordance with the ERF.
In addition to the university's own certificates, the following language certificates can be accepted:
German language certificates

- onSET (formerly On DaF)
- Austrian Language Diploma German (ÖSD)
- telc German
Tests for higher language levels:
- German Language Diploma (Level 1 corresponds to B1)
- TestDaF level 3 corresponds to B2
- DSH exam: (DSH1, 57-67% corresponds to B2 level)
English language proficiency level B2 (ERF)
- IELTS (min. 5.5 points)
- TOEFL iBT (min. 72 points in total)
- TOEFL iBT My Best Scores
- TOEFL ITP (min. 543 points)
- TOEIC (at least 400 points in listening comprehension and at least 385 points in reading comprehension)
- B2 First (formerly Cambridge English: First FCE) (160 -179 points equivalent) B2 level)
- English Test For Academic and Professional Purposes (Etapp)
- EF Set (Standard English Test)
- Linguaskill (formerly BULATS)
For the recognition of further language certificates, please contact the International Office directly via incoming2@ia.uni-stutgart.de.
Please note: Only language certificates in German or English can be recognised. If it is a translation, it must have been done by an official translator or your home university.
The International Office reserves a room in one of the student residences of the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart on the Vaihingen campus for all exchange students of the overseas program (no free choice of rooms and residence). The costs for a private room and sharing the kitchen and bathroom are currently between 350-550 €.
If you prefer to look for a private room, please let us know (further accommodation options for students).
Nomination procedure (for university employees)
Please nominate your students for one (1) or two (2) exchange semesters exclusively by e-mail to incoming2ia.uni-stuttgart.de. The deadline for nomination is 1 October/1 April. If you need more time, let us know and we will be happy to be flexible. The International Office of the University of Stuttgart will proactively contact you by email to ask for nominations for the following semester.
The academic year in Germany is divided into two semesters:
1. Semester: Winter semester: October-February
2. Semester: Summer semester: March -September

No documents are required for nomination.
We will contact your students at the beginning of October/April and inform them in detail about the registration and application process.
