Climate change and population explosions, migration, reversal of the age pyramid and the shortage of resources – in the face of these diverse challenges it is more important than ever before that society demonstrates its commitment to finding solutions and that it accepts responsibility. The built environment plays a central role in this, because only radical changes to the building industry, where less materials are used to build for more people, can help us to tackle these challenges. But what will tomorrow’s cities look like?

This is the focus of “lightweight construction in the urban system” on July 18.  This conference is the result of a collaboration between Leichtbau BW and the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1244 at the University of Stuttgart and will investigate current tendencies, concepts and developments in the building industry and in research; covering everything from innovative urban planning concepts, to adaptive supporting structures and facades, and even new processes and materials for constructing the buildings of tomorrow.
