The image of a brilliant hero, a heroic guiding or shining light, is burned deep in our collective subconscious and determines our perception of heroes even today. This lecture focuses on “L’éclat du héros” – the visual brilliance of these figures and their powerful presence as a medium of the depiction of heroic greats; everything from military heroes of the 17th century, to the dandy of the 19th century “le dernier éclat d’héroïsme dans les décadences” (Baudelaire).

Event language: German.

Upon invitation from Prof. Dr. Kirsten Dickhaut, Institute of Literary Studies.

This event is sponsored by the Robert Bosch Foundation, with funding from the DVA Foundation.
