The international buddy program offered by the University of Stuttgart and the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart aims to support you during your start in Stuttgart.

Welcome to Stuttgart, international students!

You can meet our buddies at several information stands throughout Stuttgart during your first days (see the listing below).

The first place is at the airport as soon as you arrive. Go to our airport information stand in the terminal to meet our buddies. One of them will take you to the train station, help you buy the right ticket, and get you on the right train to where you will be living.

Locations of the information stands

This is where you will find all the up-to-date details of when and where to meet our buddies as soon as the information is available.

Our buddies will welcome you in the terminal hall (arrival) at their information stand. You will recognize them by their green University of Stuttgart t-shirts. Remember, you need to register for this service before you arrive. Otherwise we will not be able to guarantee guidance for you.


Our buddies on campus can be easily found. If you arrive by S-Bahn, disembark at Universität. Take the exit Universitätszentrum. The information stand can be found upstairs next to the Deutsche Bahn information center.

The information stand for the dorms can be found on campus in Vaihingen as well. Follow the same description as to the campus stand. There will be signs guiding the way to the information stand next to the Ökumenisches Zentrum.

The residents’ registration office (Bürgerbüro) is located at the bus stop Vaihingen Rathaus. Take the bus 82 from Universität to the direction Rohr Mitte. Our buddies are in the entrance hall. Address: Rathausplatz 1, 70563 Stuttgart.

Pick up your welcome package!

We kindly ask you to come to our office at the IZ during our office hours upon arrival and pick up your welcome package. It presents all the information on what you need to do during your first few days in Stuttgart. Of cause, our staff will be ready to assist you by answering any questions that you might have. We look forward to welcoming you in Stuttgart!

Join us for fun events in and around Stuttgart. This is a great opportunity to meet both international and local students as all events are organized by our buddies. We are looking forward to meeting you!

Tuesday, September 19: Billiards night 
Do you like to get to know other students while playing a round of billiards? Join us, it doesn’t matter if you are an expert or beginner.
Time & Location: 7:30 pm at the Billiardcafé Seven, Wilhelmstrasse 12, City Center
Contribution: 3 Euro

Saturday, October 7: Hike around Stuttgart
Hike around Stuttgart including a vintage cable car ride. The hike will end at a Biergarten with local food and a lovely view over the city and its vineyards.
Time & Location: 2:30 pm at Marienplatz (station Zacke)
Contribution: free 

Wednesday, October 13: Photo tour
We show you some photogenic places in Stuttgart. Bring your camera (DSLR, compact camera), a drink and some money if you want to buy food or if you need to buy public transport tickets.

Saturday, October 14: Frankfurter Buchmesse
Meet famous authors face-to-face at the world’s largest book fair! Be part of discussions about the publishing industry worldwide. Or take a stroll around and discover new books. Check out the program online:
Time & Location: 7:00 am at main station
Contribution: 20 € (incl. train ticket and entrance fee). Please bring your student ID card.

Sunday, October 15: Vineyard Hiking Tour (Sunday-Funday) 
We will do a hiking tour together in the beautiful vineyards of Stuttgart (it will take us about 2,5 hours). Afterwards, we will stop and rest at a restaurant/bar where you can buy some wine or snacks or whatever your heart desires.
Time & Location: 12 am at the U-Bahn station Wagrainäcker (U14 direction: Remseck)

Monday, October 23: Europa Park
We will visit one of the biggest theme parks in Europe. Let´s have a wonderful day and enjoy all the attractions! This event takes a whole day and we will probably travel by train.

Brewery tour of Stuttgarter Hofbräu
During the one hour tour we will learn about brewing and we also get to taste beer and bretzel.

Sunday, November 12: 3D Black Light Minigolf (Sunday-Funday)
We want to play a special kind of minigolf you may not have tried yet. Dive into a different minigolf reality - no experience needed, just have fun!

Thursday, November 16: Ice skating
Do you have the balance? Come with us and find out. We are going to spend a nice afternoon in Eiswelt Stuttgart.

ready.study.stuttgart is the international buddy program of the University of Stuttgart and the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart. From the start, our buddies will support international students from around the world.

All international students of the University of Stuttgart – no matter where they are from – can take part in the buddy program. Just talk to one of our buddies, they are happy to help.

Our buddies at the information stands welcome international students on arrival in Stuttgart and on campus and will provide initial assistance in getting started the right way on your new life at the University. Then, you will set off on your own well-prepared for the following days.

Our services are free of charge for everyone.

Our buddies will help you to move in but you have to look for accommodation on your own. Please check our housing page for useful advice on how to find accommodation in Stuttgart.

There are several possibilities for your first night or your first nights in Stuttgart. We can provide an overview on several accommodation options here in Stuttgart. Please keep in mind that it is only possible to move into your student dorm room during the caretaker's office hours. We kindly ask you to consider this before booking your flight. 

You are a degree seeking student and you are looking for support during your studies? The Cross Cultural Mentoring Program of the University of Stuttgart might be of interest to you. As a mentee you will receive intensive support during the semester including frequent meetings with your personal mentor.
