The international buddy program offered by the University of Stuttgart and the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart aims to support you during your start in Stuttgart.

Welcome to Stuttgart, international students!

You can meet our buddies at several information stands throughout Stuttgart during your first days (see the listing below).

The first place is at the airport as soon as you arrive. Go to our airport information stand in the terminal to meet our buddies. One of them will take you to the train station, help you buy the right ticket, and get you on the right train to where you will be living.

Please register at least three weeks before your arrival in Stuttgart.

Locations of the information stands

This is where you will find all the up-to-date details of when and where to meet our buddies as soon as the information is available.

Our buddies will welcome you in the terminal hall (arrival) at their information stand. You will recognize them by their green University of Stuttgart t-shirts. Remember, you need to register for this service before you arrive. Otherwise we will not be able to guarantee guidance for you.

Our buddies on campus can be easily found. If you arrive by S-Bahn, disembark at Universität. Take the exit Universitätszentrum. The information stand can be found upstairs next to the Deutsche Bahn information center.

The information stand for the dorms can be found on campus in Vaihingen as well. Follow the same description as to the campus stand. There will be signs guiding the way to the information stand next to the Ökumenisches Zentrum.

The residents’ registration office (Bürgerbüro) is located at the bus stop Vaihingen Rathaus. Take the bus 82 from Universität to the direction Rohr Mitte. Our buddies are in the entrance hall. Address: Rathausplatz 1, 70563 Stuttgart.

Pick up your welcome package!

We kindly ask you to come to our office at the IZ during our office hours upon arrival and pick up your welcome package. It presents all the information on what you need to do during your first few days in Stuttgart. Of cause, our staff will be ready to assist you by answering any questions that you might have. We look forward to welcoming you in Stuttgart!

Saturday, September 1: Meet & Greet
First weekend in Stuttgart and no plans? No worries, let‘s visit a traditional German brewery pub in the city center and enjoy a relaxing evening together. The event is organized by Riina.
Time & Location: 5 pm in front of the Tourist Information at the Central Railway station, Königstraße 1A.

In September: Photowalk
Photowalks are the ideal way to get to know the most prominent places of a city for everyone who loves photography. Starting from the Schlossplatz, Ediz and Ahmad will take us to some of the nicest spots in Stuttgart to capture them with our cameras or smartphones. Afterwards we can sit together, edit and share our photos and videos.

Wednesday, October 10: Carting
Germans got gasoline in their blood! Long traditions of car manufacturing, car racing on well-known tracks and famous drivers lead to a broad interest in all kinds of motorsport. And all great drivers honed their skills by racing go-karts! Join Johannes and Georgi for this experience and learn how to handle a go-kart.

Thursday, October 11: Cannstatter Wasen
Join Alex, Michael and Selva to one of the world‘s biggest funfairs. We will have a fun evening exploring the Volksfest with its rollercoasters, colourful tents and food stands.

Sunday, October 14: Hiking
Join Caroline for a hike up a small mountain called Rechberg. Up there you will get a very nice view over the surrounding area and you have the possibility to visit the ruins of a small old castle. Afterwards we will explore the center of a nearby Swabian town, Schwäbisch Gmünd. Please bring good shoes for hiking and warm clothing.

Sunday, October 21: Europa-Park
Rebecca, Lisa and Alex will take us to Germany’s largest theme park, the Europa-Park in Rust. Experience various roller coasters, a 4D cinema, the Euro-Tower and many other attractions.

Contribution: EUR 30 (including return journey and entrance to the theme park)

Wednesday, October 24: Cooking evening
What does everybody remember from their trips abroad? The people, the places and THE FOOD. We want to cook with you and share all the little treats and secrets of each culture. Get pumped for some Sauerkraut, Spätzle and Ofenschlupfer! The evening is organized by Teresa, Regina, Johannes and Mohamed.

In October: Pubcrawl
Hey guys, what’s the best way to meet new people and experience the nightlife of Stuttgart? Exactly, our pubcrawl! Come and join Vanessa, Regina, Sofie and Timo to visit nice, student friendly pubs in the city center of Stuttgart.

In October: Sports day
Do you enjoy football, volleyball or sports in general? Then join us for a tournament or show us your technique in the sports hall. Sports day will be organized during the semester in the hall or until the end of October outdoors. Organized by Georgi, Tobias, Johannes, Rodrigo, Jennifer and Mohamed.

Saturday, November 3: Trip to Ludwigsburg Residential Palace
Join Melanie, Nicole and Léon on a trip to the Residental Palace in Ludwigsburg. At the palace we will have a guided historical tour through the building. After that you will have free time to take a walk through the romantic gardens, called the Baroque in Blooming with its Fairytale Garden and the world´s largest pumpkin exhibition.

In November: Theater evening
You think in Stuttgart there is only Mercedes-Benz, VfB Stuttgart and Cannstatter Wasen? No, we have also a huge cultural program during the whole year. Join Vanessa, Marie, Regina and Senay for a cultural evening to see a theater play or opera.

Wednesday, December 5: Esslinger Christmas Market
Let‘s enjoy a nice evening at the Esslinger Christmas Market, special for its medieval theme. Put on your warm clothes, a double layer of socks and drink a hot Glühwein (mulled wine) with us! The event is organized by Sofie, Marie, Timo, Ismail and Johannes.

Friday, December 7: Trip to Ulm
Join Lorenz, Caroline and Nicole for a trip to Ulm. We will visit the highest church tower of the world where you have a great view over the city. Other highlights include the water front of the river Donau where you can see Bavaria and the Christmas market where you will have some free time to explore.

In December: Uni World Cup
The World Cup is over and you already miss the atmosphere and the competition? No worries, Teresa and Mohamed will organize an intercultural competition day where you can represent your country and test your knowledge about other cultures.

In December: Mercedes Benz Museum
Join Dominik for an afternoon in Stuttgart‘s world-famous Mercedes Benz Museum. The museum celebrates the automobile invented by Carl Benz in 1886. More than 160 vehicles of all types are waiting for you, ranging from some of the oldest cars ever built to legendary racing cars and futuristic research vehicles.

ready.study.stuttgart is the international buddy program of the University of Stuttgart and the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart. From the start, our buddies will support international students from around the world.

All international students of the University of Stuttgart – no matter where they are from – can take part in the buddy program. Just talk to one of our buddies, they are happy to help.

Our buddies at the information stands welcome international students on arrival in Stuttgart and on campus and will provide initial assistance in getting started the right way on your new life at the University. Then, you will set off on your own well-prepared for the following days.

Our services are free of charge for everyone.

Our buddies will help you to move in but you have to look for accommodation on your own. Please check our housing page for useful advice on how to find accommodation in Stuttgart.

There are several possibilities for your first night or your first nights in Stuttgart. We can provide an overview on several accommodation options here in Stuttgart. Please keep in mind that it is only possible to move into your student dorm room during the caretaker's office hours. We kindly ask you to consider this before booking your flight. 

You are a degree seeking student and you are looking for support during your studies? The Cross Cultural Mentoring Program of the University of Stuttgart might be of interest to you. As a mentee you will receive intensive support during the semester including frequent meetings with your personal mentor.
