The international buddy program offered by the University of Stuttgart and the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart aims to support you during your start in Stuttgart.

Sie sind schon länger Studentin oder Student an der Universität Stuttgart und wollen sich interkulturell engagieren? Als Buddy haben Sie die Chance dazu.

Welcome to Stuttgart, international students!

You can meet our buddies at several information stands throughout Stuttgart during your first days (see the listing below).

The first place is at the airport as soon as you arrive. Go to our airport information stand in the terminal to meet our buddies. One of them will take you to the train station, help you buy the right ticket, and get you on the right train to where you will be living.

Please register at least three weeks before your arrival in Stuttgart.

Locations of the information stands

This is where you will find all the up-to-date details of when and where to meet our buddies as soon as the information is available.

Our buddies will welcome you in the terminal hall (arrival) at their information stand. You will recognize them by their green University of Stuttgart t-shirts. Remember, you need to register for this service before you arrive. Otherwise we will not be able to guarantee guidance for you.

Our buddies on campus can be easily found. If you arrive by S-Bahn, disembark at Universität. Take the exit Universitätszentrum. The information stand can be found upstairs next to the Deutsche Bahn information center.

The information stand for the dorms can be found on campus in Vaihingen as well. Follow the same description as to the campus stand. There will be signs guiding the way to the information stand next to the Ökumenisches Zentrum.

The residents’ registration office (Bürgerbüro) is located at the bus stop Vaihingen Rathaus. Take the bus 82 from Universität to the direction Rohr Mitte. Our buddies are in the entrance hall. Address: Rathausplatz 1, 70563 Stuttgart.

Pick up your welcome package!

We kindly ask you to come to our office at the IZ during our office hours upon arrival and pick up your welcome package. It presents all the information on what you need to do during your first few days in Stuttgart. Of cause, our staff will be ready to assist you by answering any questions that you might have. We look forward to welcoming you in Stuttgart!

Wednesday, April 11: Karaoke night
Join Janik for a fun night singing karaoke. It doesn‘t matter if you can sing or not. It will be fun both ways!
Time & Location: 8 pm in front of Biddy Earlys Irish Pub

Friday, April 13: Pub Crawl in Esslingen
We will go on a tour around Esslingen and visit some bars in the old town of Esslingen. The event is organized by Janik.
Time & Location: 8 pm in front of the Burger King in Esslingen station

Saturday, April 14: Fencing
You like sports, challenges or just want to try out something completely new? Then come and try our crash course in fencing. You only need to bring sport clothes and sport shoes for the hall. The event is organized by Tobias.
Time & Location: 2 pm (to 5 pm). We‘ll meet in front of the gym Allmandring (Address: Allmandring 28, 70569 Stuttgart)

Wednesday, April 18: Game night
Join us for a get-together with a few classic board games, a PS4 corner with NBA / FIFA and a few other surprises as well! If you have any board games lying around, feel free to bring them along. The event is organized by Giulia and Chris.
Time & Location: 6 pm at the IZ foyer
Contribution: Soft drinks are provided, please bring your own snacks.

Sunday, May 6: Maiwanderung
It‘s almost summer and this is the best time to discover Stuttgart and its surroundings while hiking through the vineyards. Afterwards, we will stop and rest at a restaurant where you can get some wine or snacks. Please remember to bring enough cash.The event is organized by Verena and Elena.
Time & Location: 11 am at the U-Bahn stop „Wagrainäcker" (U12, U14)

Monday, May 7: Frühlingfest (Wasen, Stuttgart-Bad Cannstatt)
Europe‘s largest spring festival takes place in Stuttgart with a student night on every Monday. Join Jessica for a fun evening with rollercoasters, food stands and pay a visit to one of the festival tents.

Friday, May 11: Ludwigsburg castle
The castle in Ludwigsburg, built in 1733, is one of the largest baroque buildings in Europe. There are tours in English around the grand rooms of the castle. When the weather is fine, it is possible to walk through the big, beautiful garden, known as Blühendes Barock, surrounding the castle. On top, there is a fairy-tale garden that can be visited. The event is organized by Shima.

Saturday, Max 19: Ballett
Swan Lake is one of the most popular of all ballets. Watch with us the presentation of the renowned Stuttgart Ballett, based on the choreography by the famous John Cranko.
Time & Location: 6:30 pm in front of the opera house
Contribution: EUR 5. Please bring your student ID!

Sundays in Germany are always boring? Think again! Be a part of NEEDFORTRIP as Max will take you to one of the most amazing places the southern part of Germany has to offer.

Sunday, April 15, 2018: Oberstdorf and Breitachklamm
Come with us to Oberstdorf in the Bavarian alps and into the Breitach canyon. Discover alpine lakes and breathtaking viewpoints: Walk 15 km with a 500 m altitude difference. No equipment needed, only a pair of sport shoes and rain gear.

Contribution: approx. EUR 18 for the train ticket and EUR 4.50 for the entrance to the Breitachklamm

Sunday, May 13: Castle ruin, red rocks in Rhineland-Palatinate
Discover the castles on the red rocks, the pine forest, great viewpoints in Rhineland-Palatinate with us. There will be 18 km to walk with 200 m altitude difference. No equipment needed, only a pair of sport shoes and rain gear.

ready.study.stuttgart is the international buddy program of the University of Stuttgart and the Studierendenwerk Stuttgart. From the start, our buddies will support international students from around the world.

All international students of the University of Stuttgart – no matter where they are from – can take part in the buddy program. Just talk to one of our buddies, they are happy to help.

Our buddies at the information stands welcome international students on arrival in Stuttgart and on campus and will provide initial assistance in getting started the right way on your new life at the University. Then, you will set off on your own well-prepared for the following days.

Our services are free of charge for everyone.

Our buddies will help you to move in but you have to look for accommodation on your own. Please check our housing page for useful advice on how to find accommodation in Stuttgart.

There are several possibilities for your first night or your first nights in Stuttgart. We can provide an overview on several accommodation options here in Stuttgart. Please keep in mind that it is only possible to move into your student dorm room during the caretaker's office hours. We kindly ask you to consider this before booking your flight. 

You are a degree seeking student and you are looking for support during your studies? The Cross Cultural Mentoring Program of the University of Stuttgart might be of interest to you. As a mentee you will receive intensive support during the semester including frequent meetings with your personal mentor.
