Sociology deals with social structures that arise among people living in groups and that change over time. Social systems like the economy, the state, or science are social structures, as are enterprises, daily interactions, or inequalities between social strata and social environments.

One of the most important topics in sociology is how such social structures change; in other words, how inequality, organizations or social systems develop as parameters change. Sociology examines these processes and structures by relating them to general theoretical models, deriving hypotheses from them which it then analyzes using empirical data (e.g., gathered with surveys).

Studying for the B.A Sociology as minor subject consist primarily of sociology modules from the Bachelor’s in Social Sciences (single subject).

The following are the study contents at the University of Stuttgart:

  • Sociological theory
  • Methods of empirical social research
  • Research into social inequality
  • Sociology of the organization and of innovation
  • Sociology of technology and environmental sociology
