The University of Stuttgart is offering six new Masters degree programs for the winter semester 2013/2014. Of these, three are consecutively planned, i.e. directly following the respective Bachelor degree programs: Architecture and Town Planning, Medical Technology and Simulation Technology. Also new are the two English-language Masters degree programs of Computer Science and Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research as well as Master Panning and Participation which includes the issues of civic participation in decision-making and planning processes.
Planning and Participation M.Sc.
Planning projects are often controversial. Decisions concerning new building projects,
redevelopment work, road expansions or infrastructure projects frequently meet with resistance from
local citizens. Protest becomes stronger of those affected have not been sufficiently involved in
the decision-making process. Concepts and methods which enable appropriate inclusion of the public
in planning and decision-making processes remain scarce. The objective of the new Masters degree
program ‚Planning and Participation‘ is to pass on knowledge to others of the issue of civic
participation. Graduates of this program will be experts in this field and may find work in
community administration, industry, science and politics.
The Masters degree program „Planning and Participation“ is the first training program in the
country focused on this professional field. Cooperation of five institutes from three faculties of
the University of Stuttgart provides a network o various specialist know-how on social sciences,
natural and engineering sciences and law. The program has been designed with a focus on practical
application, in line with the requirements of professional employment. „During this program“, says
the Program Leader Prof. Ortwin Renn, „students will obtain in-depth knowledge on issues of public
planning and practice-oriented know-how on the organization and execution of participation
processes“.

Medical Technology M.Sc.
The field of medical technology has gained in importance immensely in recent years, since
health care and medical progress continues to demand competent, well qualified specialists. The
masters program is founded on disciplines of engineering science and links all specialists at the
University of Stuttgart from research and teaching. Training of students is interdisciplinary and
designed on a research-oriented basis, while medical devices and systems s well as bio-medical
processes are researched and developed on a practice-oriented basis. One special criterion is the
option of selecting different modules for individual focus of your studies. The program includes
practical exercises at the university as well as an internship in industry or a technical
internship at a clinic. You will find more information at
http://www.medtech.uni-stuttgart.de.
Simulation Technology M.Sc.
Simulation Technology enables us to answer questions with the aid of a computer in a safe,
reliable and low-cost manner, which cannot be handled using conventional experiments. For example:
How does a therapeutic agent spread in a case of lung cancer? What happens in a combustion chamber
at 1200°C? How does a Space Shuttle land? How do hazardous substances flow in the subsoil? Reliable
forecasts under reproducible conditions can be made here with the aid of simulations. You will find
more information at

Architecture and Town Planning M.Sc.
Graduates of the consecutive Masters Program Architecture and Town Planning are qualified to
handle responsible, complex and innovative work in the field of architecture, research and
development. Students can select their focus studies from a wide range. In addition, they will have
fulfilled international professional standards which ensure excellent international career
perspectives. You will find more information at www.architektur.uni-stuttgart.de/lehre/master/.
Computer Science M.Sc.
In addition to the German-language masters program in Computer Science and Software
Engineering, the university now offers an English-language program in Computer Science as of the
winter semester 2013/2014. In addition to the language, the most essential difference to the German
program of Computer Science is the stronger focus in the three fields of „Autonomous Systems in
Computer Science“, „Service Technology and Engineering“ and „Visual Computing“. You will find more
information at

Integrative Technologies and Architectural Design Research M.Sc.
The objective of this interdisciplinary, research-oriented ITECH program is to provide students with current know-how on technological and computer-based processes in architecture. The program involves the fields of design, design engineering, engineering sciences, digital production, robotics, materials science and natural sciences.
