GAIN 2017

Rector Ressel at GAIN in the USA

August 29, 2017

The University of Stuttgart appeared at the largest academic career fair in the USA and Canada to provide interested parties with information about the university.

The annual meeting of the German Academic International Network (GAIN) took place in San Francisco from September 25 to 27. The conference is the largest academic career fair for German scientists in the USA and Canada. It offers visitors the chance to find out about the latest developments in the German scientific community and to exchange information about career opportunities. This year, Rector Prof. Wolfram Ressel and Dr. Wolfgang Holtkamp, Senior Advisor International Affairs, were on site once again to inform interested parties about career paths at the University of Stuttgart.

A series of workshops gave Rector Ressel the chance to present the development opportunities in the fields of science and research at the University of Stuttgart. He was much in demand, particularly in the natural science workshop, where participants discussed the career paths that are open to graduates from this subject area in Germany. This workshop focused on the best way to pursue a scientific career, particularly in terms of achieving qualifications within the field of science while also considering alternative occupational fields.

The university’s stand at the fair presented an opportunity to answer questions and to provide individual advice about development and career paths. It also enabled in-depth discussions with doctoral students and post-graduates.

As part of the GAIN initiative, the GAIN annual conference was initiated in 2003 and is organized by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Research Foundation (DFG). It is an important international forum for exchanging information about university and scientific policy.
