The go-ahead for Exi+ has been given, and with it come a number of new programs and services for people interested in starting their own business, including IP scouting and comprehensive advice for founders.

IP-scouting
The function of IP scouting is the early detection of research findings that are attractive and relevant to knowledge and technology transfer. These include inventions, software, services, and know-how. IP scout Philipp Häßler and the team of the Knowledge and Technology Transfer Department advise scientists at an early stage on how to handle transfer-relevant intellectual property (IP). “We from the Research and Transfer Division have been wanting to establish IP scouting at the University of Stuttgart for a long time, and we are very pleased that the Exi+ project has now opened up this opportunity,” says Dr. Luise Goroncy, Head of Division.

Startup consultancy service
A special focus is on the suitability of IP for spin-offs. Scientists and students who are interested in starting their own business are given extensive support in cooperation with the startup advisors of the Exi+ project, which is based at the institute of Prof. Alexander Brem.

The team of the startup consultancy service consists of Dr. Jordi Mauri, Dr. Mirja Meyborg, and Marcel Werle. In their function as startup-coaches they advise people who are interested in setting up a business and are looking for support with their ideas. This can be about an initial idea that is to be developed into a business model, support in the search for suitable funding opportunities, such as the EXIST Startup Grant, EXIST Research Transfer, and Young Innovators, as well as the recommendation of suitable accelerator programs such as Let US elevate, Sandbox of the Stuttgart Media University, Gründermotor Meisterklasse, and Startup BW ASAP.

This new program both extends the previous activities of the University of Stuttgart within the framework of Let US start and complements the activities of the Technology Transfer Initiative at the University of Stuttgart, with which the startup advisors work closely together. The new program also ties in with the Media University, which complements the interdisciplinary exchange as a project partner.

About Exi+
After the University of Stuttgart had successfully participated in the “EXIST-Potentiale” university competition of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) in December 2019, the Exi+ project was launched and is now located at the institute of Prof. Alexander Brem. With this project, the University of Stuttgart wants to intelligently network and systematically complete the existing services and programs in the field of entrepreneurship in one of the most innovative regions in Germany. For the next four years, EUR 1.6 million have been set aside to contribute to the creation of a growing alliance in the Stuttgart region. The strong involvement of all participants prevents competition between the services and programs offered and promotes cooperation.
