Global change is one of the leading issues of our time. It refers to the ecological burden on our planet, and particularly to topics such as climate change, loss of biodiversity, resource extraction, land consumption and marine pollution. It is the fingerprint of our values and lifestyles and has now become critical, driven by corresponding socio-economic ideas.

This lecture will present various issues and concepts related to global change - the "Global Risk Map" as well as the "Limits to Growth" or the Millennium Development Goals. What are the particularly critical and controversial issues? Their origins will be examined from a historical perspective, beginning with the Neolithic Revolution, continuing through colonialism and the Industrial Revolution, and ending with the digitalization of the present day.

Meaningful and possible solutions such as the concept of sustainability, sufficiency, system change in the context of climate change, or the approaches of a Global Alliance etc. will also be part of the lecture.
