How long does it take to find employment after graduating from university? How satisfied are alumni with their employment? And how satisfied were they with their study program? Graduates from all nine universities in the State of Baden- Württemberg were asked to take part in the survey.

Survey findings at the University of Stuttgart

Half of graduates from the University of Stuttgart who responded to the survey, stated that they were able to find employment just one month or less after completing their degree. The staff position quality development of the University of Stuttgart reports that after six months, this number rose to 93 percent, and after 9 months 99 percent of graduates had successfully found employment. Furthermore, 81 percent of graduates are satisfied or very satisfied with their place of employment.

Overall study program satisfaction was rated as high or extremely high by 72 percent of respondents. This high level of satisfaction is also made evident by the fact that 97 percent of graduates with a Bachelor’s degree intend to complete a Master’s degree, and 82 percent of these remain at the University of Stuttgart.

“The research-oriented teaching at the University of Stuttgart is of extremely high quality and this is further improved by the interdisciplinary approach and strong practical relevance. The students also value these aspects,” says Professor Wolfram Ressel, Rector at the University of Stuttgart. “A degree from the University of Stuttgart puts our students in pole position when it comes to finding employment.”

In addition to a particularly fast start to their careers, graduates of the University of Stuttgart also earn the most as young professionals in Germany. This was the result of the salary report published by the Stepstone job platform in November 2020.

Survey shows excellent results across the state

The findings of the graduate study show excellent results for all universities in Baden- Württemberg: graduates from all subjects show a high level of satisfaction with their study programs at all Baden-Württemberg universities (76 percent). In retrospect, nine out of ten graduates do not regret their decision to study.

On average, graduates in Baden-Württemberg find employment two to three months after graduation. And half of these found employment directly after graduating, that is, after just one month. Almost all of those asked (95 percent), who chose neither to continue their studies nor embark on a doctoral degree had found employment within one-and-a-half years after graduation.

A large majority of these (approx. 75 percent) assessed their current employment situation as adequately suited to their skill level. Three out of four graduates had a permanent contract within one-and-a-half years after graduating.

Information about the survey

For the Baden-Württemberg Graduate Survey, all nine universities in the state sent the same survey to graduates who graduated from university between 2016 and 2018. Graduates were invited to participate in the survey approximately one to one-and-a-half years after graduating. The survey was conducted before the corona pandemic took hold. Survey answers from approximately 23,400 people were included in the study.

The detailed findings of the graduate study can be found in the General report on the Baden-Württemberg Graduate Study (not barrier-free). If you are unable to read this document, please telephone Janina Gresser at +49 711 685-84193.
