The University of Stuttgart bids a final farewell to Professor Arno Lederer.
In addition to his work as a successful architect of several landmark buildings in Stuttgart and many other locations, Prof. Lederer was always also a gifted and committed teacher. He was a popular professor who led the Institute of Public Buildings and Design (IÖB) at the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning at the University of Stuttgart from 2005 to 2014 and represented the faculty as dean from 2010 to 2014.
He enthusiastically defended the primacy of design and generalists over specialists in the teaching of architecture. He was effective in conveying his opinions, but always friendly and approachable in tone. His teaching was characterized by his motivation and appreciation for his subject field, as well as his work to support talented students. The University of Stuttgart has lost someone who, above all, shaped the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning like no other.
A more detailed obituary will soon be available on the faculty website.
