The National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI) aims to develop and interconnect the valuable stock of data from science and research, making it useable and available to the entire German scientific system.
The consortia unite data and services, as well as developing overall solutions
The supporting pillars of the NFDI are its consortia, where users and providers of repositories are able to collaborate. They collate existing data collections and services and establish new, interdisciplinary solutions for research management in Germany – always in line with the European network of European Open Science Cloud (EOSC), which is currently under development and which will be compatible with the NFDI. Several such NFDI consortia have already been approved and more are currently being evaluated – in cooperation with Stuttgart scientists and FoKUS, the Competence Center for Research Data Management.
Our aim is a collective knowledge resource
The development of this collective knowledge resource is supported by the federal and state governments. They have established the NFDI Association, in cooperation with the newly created NFDI directorate in Karlsruhe, which the University of Stuttgart has now joined. By joining the association, the University of Stuttgart is signaling its desire to make a valuable contribution to the decision-making process in the development of the NFDI. Vice Rector Dr. Simone Rehm views joining the NFDI as an important step in positioning the university as an active player in the development of the National Research Data Infrastructure.
