Stuttgart researchers among the “best scientists”

35 researchers from the University of Stuttgart are listed as top scientists in their field: The academic platform Research.com has released the results of the Best Scientists Ranking for the fields “Engineering and Technology”, “Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering”, “Computer Science”, and “Mathematics”.

Engineering and technology

For the area of “Engineering and technology”, the achievements of 27,940 scientists worldwide were examined, and 2,000 of them were included in the ranking of top scientists. Seven researchers from the University of Stuttgart occupy top international positions, thus placing them among the top 10% worldwide in their field:

With 20,517 citations and 364 publications, Prof. Hermann Haken ranked #15 in Germany (out of 296 ranks awarded). In an international comparison, he ranked #799 and thus belongs to the top 3% of the 27,940 scientists worldwide in his field.

With 11,510 citations and 665 publications, Prof. Wolfgang Osten ranked #1,120 internationally and #35 in Germany. This puts him in the top 4% of his field worldwide.

Researchers from the University of Stuttgart achieved further top rankings in the field of “Engineering and Technology”

  • Stefan Wagner ranked #1,594 among the top 6% of all colleagues worldwide and #54 in Germany
  • Rainer Helmig ranked #1,907 internationally among the top 7% and #67 in Germany
  • Jaya Narayan Sahu ranked #1,267 internationally among the top 5% and #39 in Germany. During the evaluation period, he conducted research as a Humboldt Fellow at the Institute for Theoretical Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart.

Mechanical engineering and aerospace

In the area of “Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering”, Research.com examined the performance of 5,741 scientists worldwide and included 1,942 of them in the ranking. Two researchers from the University of Stuttgart are internationally ranked in the top 10%. With 17,117 citations and 238 publications, Prof. Christian Miehe ranked #7 in Germany (out of 64 ranks awarded). With 30,795 citations and 644 publications, Prof. Frank Leymann ranked #22 in Germany (out of 495 ranks awarded), thus placing him among the top 4%. In an international comparison, he ranked #547 and thus belongs to the top 4% of the 14,402 scientists worldwide in his field.

With 17,198 citations and 631 publications, Prof. Thomas Ertl ranked #1,239 internationally and #45 in Germany This puts him in the top 9% of his field worldwide and in the top 9% in Germany.

Furthermore, the researchers from the University of Stuttgart rank among the world’s top 15% in the field of “Computer Science”

  • Kurt Rothermel ranked #2,002 internationally among the top 14% and #83 in Germany
  • Daniel Weiskopf ranked #2,135 internationally among the top 15% and #92 in Germany.
