Tailoring computer usage to human needs

Interactive user interfaces are now a fundamental component of many systems and machines. System developers require extensive computer science knowledge to make these systems intuitive and easy to use.

Furthermore, they need knowledge in digital media, human-computer interaction, or computer graphics. That is exactly what the Media Computer Science program teaches: It operates at the interface between humans and machines, providing the foundation to design digital systems that meet the needs of human users.

Good to know

  • This program is centered on the human-machine interface but differs significantly from a Media Computer Science program at a university of applied sciences. The program is a computer science degree with a focus on visualization and human-computer interaction - not media design.
  • The Department of Computer Science at the University of Stuttgart is excellent in both research and teaching and offers a very broad range of courses. This allows for individual specialization in the elective areas of the study program throughout the course of study.
  • Practically oriented teaching: You are introduced to practical work early on in your studies. In this process, you benefit directly from the department's research expertise – current research findings are continuously integrated into the teaching. The study project is given special emphasis, as it prepares you specifically for the typical working practices you will encounter in your future career.
