English Teaching Qualification
This study program is structured around three primary areas of focus.
- American literature and culture encompasses cultural expressions from the colonial beginnings of the United States to the present day, including literary (and non-fiction) texts, as well as artistic and commercial media products of all kinds (advertising, film, comics, etc.).
- English literature and culture span from the early modern period to the present day and include texts from Great Britain as well as (post-)colonial texts written in English. The analysis of the texts is deepened through socio-cultural contextualization.
- Linguistics deals with structural and meaning-related features of the English language and its varieties. This is covered by the subfields of phonology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics.
