Personal Information

The rail transport expert Prof. Ullrich Martin was born in Merseburg in 1963. He studied transport engineering in Dresden and finished his PhD studies at the TU Braunschweig in 1995. Until 1998, Martin worked for the Ingenieurgesellschaft für Projektmanagement (engineering association for project management) in Braunschweig. After that, he became chair of the department transport construction and transport systems technology at the University of Leipzig. In 2001 he was appointed a professorship in the field of railways and local public transport and became head of the Institute of Railway and Transportation Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. Since 2004 Martin is a corresponding member of the Saxon Academy of Science, technical science class. In 2014 the national accreditation body for the Federal Republic of Germany nominated Martin as domain expert in the field of rail transport.
