Field of Work
IT in production including implementation of industry 4.0 Principles: networking and digitization of production. Hard- / software co-simulation for the design of production equipment, support of virtual commissioning and real-time simulation of production facilities for monitoring and pre-evaluation of production processes. Computer-aided planning methods for additive manufacturing processes. Data acquisition up to Big Data and cognitive methods for data analysis. Research on closed digital process chains for product and process development with the aim of software-defined manufacturing for maximum flexibility in production facilities.
Oliver Riedel, born 1965 in Osnabrück, studied technical cybernetics. For more than 20 years Mr. Riedel has been dealing with the basics and the practical application of methods for virtual validation in product development and production. He has led numerous projects for large international companies in the automotive and energy industries to introduce virtual methods. After working at the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization, he worked for CENIT AG Systemhaus and SiliconGraphics Inc. active in this field. Afterwards, he was responsible for process integration and information management in the product process at AUDI AG. In 2010 he joined the VW Group as Head of Information Technology and Process Integration Product Process. From 2012 onwards, he was responsible at AUDI AG for controlling the planning processes and coordinating production-relevant IT. Since 2016, he has been head of the Institute for Control Engineering of Machine Tools and Manufacturing Units (ISW) at the University of Stuttgart, holder of the Chair for Production IT and member of the board of directors of the Fraunhofer Institute for Industrial Engineering and Organization (IAO).
