For 25 years now the University of Stuttgart has had a strategic partnership with Peter the Great Polytechnic University of St. Petersburg. On the occasion of this jubilee, scientists from both universities met on 29 th June 2015 in St. Petersburg in numerous work groups in order to intensify the bilateral cooperation further. The University of St. Petersburg awarded the Rector of the University of Stuttgart, Prof. Wolfram Ressel, an honorary doctorate for his services related to the scientific international cooperation between both universities.
In the course of the jubilee ceremony and the award of the honorary doctorate to Prof. Wolfram Ressel, attended also by honorary guests from the German Consulate General in St. Petersburg as well as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Rector of the University of Petersburg, Prof. Andrey I. Rudskoy, emphasised that the cooperation in education and research was a central pillar of the German-Russian relationship. In so doing Prof. Rudskoy acknowledged the achievements of Prof. Ressel towards the strategic further development at the University of St. Petersburg and the strengthening of the scientific exchange. “Your work has significantly strengthened the position of the University of St. Petersburg in the academic world“, according to Prof. Rudskoy when giving reasons for the award.
In his words of thanks Prof. Ressel underlined the fact that the universities had been successful in 25 years of joint cooperation in cementing trust and friendship and announced plans to further expand joint projects. “We will intensify our strategic partnership, discuss with each other openly and thereby find joint answers to the challenges of our times“, stated Prof. Ressel.
Scientific work groups from both universities met to discuss numerous topics: these included computer technology, material testing, technical and numerical mechanics, quality management and internationalisation. Cooperations between the university libraries and language centres rounded off the diverse spectrum of dialogues based on partnerships.
