International students – welcome to Stuttgart!

September 7, 2017

350 new international students have been arriving at the University of Stuttgart since the beginning of September.

350 new international students have been arriving at the University of Stuttgart since the beginning of September. Approximately half of these will be enrolled on one of the international Master’s programs, around 130 are Erasmus+ students, and approximately 50 come from our partner universities worldwide. They will all take part in an intensive German language course, offered by the International Office. In addition to learning the language, international students will also be given intercultural training in preparation for life “away from the comfort zone” of their home country.

Important information for a good start to the semester

The university offers an extensive orientation program during the first few days of the new semester. International students will be informed in groups about the numerous formalities that arise at the beginning of their study program, and they will be given a tour of the campus to help them get to know their new environment. Shopping tours are also offered to introduce new students to the cheapest stores and places to buy what they need.

Support from all sides

Organized by the International Office and Studierendenwerk Stuttgart, the university’s buddy program ready.study.stuttgart is particularly popular. Experienced students from the University of Stuttgart are trained by the International Office and welcome the new international students at a stand located in the airport.  During the first few days of the semester, further buddy program stands can also be found in the S-Bahn train station at the university and in the Allmandring halls of residence. ‘Buddies’ from the program help the new students to find their way around the campus and to get settled into their accommodation. Approximately 40 students also take advantage of the offer to receive help from a buddy with completing the necessary formalities and paperwork. On two days in the first week of September, a stand from ready.study.stuttgart can also be found in the Vaihingen office building to help new arrivals with registration and applying for a residence permit.
