Sustainability in the Endless City

International Perspectives on the IBA City Region Stuttgart
Public kick-off of the workshop

Event date
April 26, 2017 7:00 PM   until 9:00 PM

How do international agreements such as the Agenda 2030 with its 17 sustainability goals and the New Urban Agenda impact the local level? The successful implementation of these global agendas requires integrated thinking and action, within and across administrative boundaries. Thus many municipalities, such as Stuttgart, face the challenge of preserving quality of life and social and economic security for future generations.
How can this be sucessfully implemented? In order to make cities more sustainable, an urban regional perspective
becomes increasingly common. Scientific research and practice therefore focus on the emergence and development
of urban regions, and so does the city of Stuttgart. With the International Building Exhibition (IBA) 2027, it intends to
set a worldwide standard for building, living and working in the age of digitization, globalization and climate change.
What can we learn from other contexts? What responses to the challenges of development in metropolitan regions can we adopt from other city regions? What framework conditions and governance processes are required to enhance a resource-efficient, resilient and socially inclusive development of urban regions?
