In the field of aerospace engineering, fiber reinforced composites are currently cutting-edge, particularly in combination with carbon fibers. Thanks to advances in lightweight construction techniques in vehicle construction, but also in various other technical products (e.g. high-performance sport items), these materials are becoming part of everyday life. This lecture sheds light on this development and also provides information about how such materials can be used, their limitations, their sustainability and the advantages and disadvantages of composite materials.
Prof. Dr. Peter Middendorf, Head of the Institute of Aircraft Design (IFB)
This event is part of the lecture series “Fragen an die Wissenschaft (Ask the Experts)”, organized by Volkshochschule Stuttgart, in cooperation with the University of Stuttgart, the Stuttgarter Zeitung, the State Museum of Natural History Stuttgart, and the Stuttgart Media University. This series of lectures looks at current research findings and presents these in an understandable way, opening up new topics of discussion.
