Stefan Pertschi, a pioneer of cinematic live paintings, has produced 50 pencil sketches of readers in public libraries in Stuttgart and Hamburg. He often had just a few minutes to capture the fundamental characteristics of the unknown subject, engrossed in a book. Many of his sketches remain fragmentary because the reader changed their position or left the library. Stefan Pertschi describes his creative process as, “a continuous play with numerous strangers”. “At the moment when I put my pencil to paper and as I focus on my subject, I do not know what will happen over the course of the next few minutes.”
