Chancellor Jan Gerken welcomed the participants.

Chancellor Jan Gerken was on hand to fire the starter's pistol for hundreds of runners to make their way across the start line on the tartan track at the Allmandring stadium. The course made its way through the Vaihingen Campus, past the institute buildings, lecture halls and offices, into the forest at Pfaffenwaldring and then back into the stadium. A total of 970 members of the university started the event – a new record. “Ever since we first held the Campus Run four years ago, the number of participants has gone up every year”, says Anna-Lena Fahl, Head of University Sport. Gerken, who himself took part in the 6-kilometer run, also hopes that the number of participants will go over the thousand mark in 2020.

Overall, Fahl is very happy with the way the Campus Run went. “Everything was very well organized and we got a lot of good feedback.” The new discipline, the 6-kilometer walk, was also well received. 53 people started the walk, and a walking event is planned again for next year.

Joachim Krauth repeated his victory from previous years in the 12-kilometer run. The research assistant at the Institute of Theoretical Physics IV at the University of Stuttgart completed the Hawaii Ironman last year, which he told us more about in an interview [de].

After crossing the finish line, there were smoothies and ice creams for everybody. Participants compared their results or took photos in front of a photo wall. Later on, the evening was chill out time, with a cozy barbecue in the stadium.
