Registering for the Children’s Uni

April 25, 2017

On Friday May 19, the physicist Dr. Michael Jetter from the Institute of Semiconductor Optics and Functional Interfaces at the University of Stuttgart will be experimenting with beams of light.

LEDs and lasers – special lights from crystals
Dr. Michael Jetter, Institute for Semiconductor Optics and Functional Interfaces at the University of Stuttgart
Friday May 19, 2017, 4.00pm, auditorium 53.01

When we switch on a light in a room, it is usually created by a crystal in an LED (light-emitting diode). Even Luke Skywalker in Star Wars had a crystal in his lightsaber, which created a strong light, a laser beam. These laser beams are also used to enable us to chat to our friends on the internet. What must a crystal have to be able to emit light? What is the difference between an LED and a laser? What can we do with these different kinds of lights? At this event, Dr. Michael Jetter, Ulrich Schneider and Roman Bek will answer these questions using lots of exciting experiments.

You can register for this event at the University of Stuttgart from April 25. Registration must be carried out online.
