Rector Professor Wolfram Ressel elected as the next President of the TU9 Alliance

The new board member assumes office on 1st January 2018

Professor Wolfram Ressel, Rector of the University of Stuttgart and Chairman of the Baden-Württemberg State Rectors’ Conference, has been elected as the next President of the TU9 for the 2018 to 2020 term of office. The TU9 is the alliance of the leading technical universities in Germany. The choice was made unanimously in the framework of the TU9 closed summer meeting at the Academy Centre of the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Raitenhaslach.

Professor Ressel is currently the TU9 Vice President and will be assuming the office of President from his colleague Professor Hans Jürgen Prömel, President of the Technical University of Darmstadt and TU9-President since 2014. By statute Professor Prömel was no longer available for re-election. The election of the next TU9 Vice President for the 2018 to 2020 term of office will be made at the suggestion of the designated TU9 President Ressel at the general meeting in autumn. Official inauguration for the new TU9 Board is 1st January 2018. 

On the occasion of his election, Professor Ressel said: “I look forward to making a positive impact on the future framework conditions of the German Technical Universities together with my colleagues and to strengthening their national as well as international competitiveness. In doing so it always revolves around illustrating the significance of the achievements made by the universities, joined together in the TU9 association, for science, business and society.“

Brief cv: Professor Dr.-Ing. Dr. h.c. Wolfram Ressel

Wolfram Ressel, born in Munich in 1960, studied civil engineering at the Technical University of Munich and received his PhD in 1994 at the University of the German Federal Armed Forces Munich. As managing director he ran an engineering office for civil engineering and surveying in Munich from 1993. Since 1998 Wolfram Ressel has held the professorship for road design and road construction at the University of Stuttgart and is managing director of the Institute for Roads and Transportation. From 2000 to 2006 he was the Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering. Since October 2006 Wolfram Ressel has been the Rector of the University of Stuttgart.

Professor Ressel has been active in various committees and organisations, including in the executive committee of the German University Association (DHV) and on the board of the Accreditation Agency of Engineering, Computer Science, Natural Sciences and Mathematics Study Courses (ASIIN). In April 2014 he was appointed Vice-Chairman of the Baden-Württemberg State Rectors’ Conference; he has been its chairman since 2016.
