The Karl Imhoff Award of the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA) goes this year to Dr.-Ing. Felix Beckers. He is being honored for his dissertation "Investigations on Functional Relationships between Cohesive Sediment Erosion and Sediment Characteristics." Beckers completed the work at the Department of Hydraulic Engineering and Water Quantity Management at the University of Stuttgart under the supervision of Prof. Silke Wieprecht.
The award-winning dissertation deals with the erosion mechanisms and processes of cohesive sediments in reservoirs. The work makes an important contribution to a better understanding of the stability and erodibility of cohesive sediments in reservoirs and will be helpful for the development of sustainable sediment management strategies in reservoirs, which is currently an important topic in practice, not least due to the considerable annual worldwide loss of reservoir storage capacity. The dissertation topic is therefore of particular interest for many scientific and practical issues in the field of engineering and environmental sciences.
The Karl Imhoff Prize is awarded as a DWA environmental prize for outstanding research work, dissertations or examination papers in the fields of work of the DWA and is endowed with 10,000 euros.
