For decades, improving the performance of integrated circuits was primarily carried out via by the size of the transistors as their basic module. In the meantime, transistors now measure just nanometers, making it barely possible to reduce them further and alternative strategies are needed. Dr. Inga Fischer uses experimental research to link new materials with nanostructuring, with the aim of:
- researching the further development of the transistor (“End of the Roadmap”),
- developing alternative construction element concepts (“Beyond CMOS”)
- or integrating additional functionality – such as sensors – onto the chip (“More than Moore”).
Personal information:
Inga A. Fischer graduated in the field of theoretical solid-state physics and was then initially employed as a research scientist, and then as program manager at Siemens Corporate Technology, where she processed and led intercompany research projects in the field of developing numerical-stochastic algorithms for the stimulation and optimization of processes and products. Since 2010, she has been researching at the Institute for Semiconductor Engineering at the University of Stuttgart. She was a member of the Junior Top Talent Program at Siemens AG and was sponsored from 2012 to 2014 by the Bosch Foundation as part of the “Fast Track” program.
