Inspire Inclusion: What the University of Stuttgart is doing for women

"Inspire Inclusion" serves as the motto for International Women's Day 2024, aligning with the approach we're fostering at the University of Stuttgart. Our aim is to shape the university culture and research landscape in an interdisciplinary and inclusive manner.

"There are still rigid role models that influence study choices and career paths. It is therefore imperative for the University of Stuttgart to counteract this trend and, notably, to showcase the diversity within technology and the natural sciences," emphasizes Chancellor Anna Steiger. "The potential of girls and young women is indispensable for a sustainable society!"

That is why we are committed to attracting significantly more women to science and research and increasing the proportion of women in top positions. Retaining our university members in the long term is a top priority for us.

Together with all members of the university, we want to contribute to social sustainability. We actively encourage girls and women to study, do a doctorate, found a company or work at our university.

In our daily interactions, we employ respectful language that acknowledges and embraces all genders and forms of diversity. Through our actions and dedication, we actively promote the advancement of rights and opportunities for girls and women across all facets of the university. With projects such as Girls' Day and TryScience, we give schoolgirls of all ages an exciting insight into everyday university life and research. Young scientists are closely supported in mentoring programs. We also attach great importance to inclusive teaching and gender dimensions in research proposals.

We view gender equality not just as a hallmark of quality and a guarantor of excellence, but also as a deeply ingrained principle within our university culture. We want to enable all members of the university to realize their full potential and talents. As a technically oriented university, we place special emphasis on the gender dimension and strive for equality between women and men. We actively consider the diverse life situations and interests of individuals of all genders.

More women in science means more innovation. They serve not only as significant sources of inspiration but also as role models for young scientists, as well as the specialists and managers of tomorrow.
