Engineering: Top rankings for research, teaching, and industry income

University of Stuttgart excels in "THE World University Rankings by Subject 2023

The University of Stuttgart has improved its ranking in "THE World University Rankings by Subject 2023", published on October 25, 2022, and is now among the top 125 for engineering from 1,306 universities listed worldwide. In Germany, the department is placed 6th out of 23 universities listed.  The success of the engineering department can be attributed to the indicators "Research", "Teaching" and "Industry Income", which were all rated very highly. For these indicators, the University of Stuttgart is among the TOP 10 percent worldwide. In "THE World University Rankings by subject 2023", the University of Stuttgart was also ranked for the following subject areas: Arts & humanities (251-300), Computer science (151-175), Life sciences (151-175) and Physical sciences (301-400). In these four areas, the results remained constant compared to the previous year. These disciplines are among the top 15 percent internationally in terms of "Industry Income".

For these rankings, the British magazine "Times Higher Education" (THE) asks scientists worldwide about the reputation of universities in teaching and research. In addition, data such as the supervision ratio of teachers and students, third-party funds raised from industry, the number of publications per researcher, citations per publication, and the degree of internationalization are also evaluated. The indicators are weighted differently depending on the subject culture.

In "THE World University Ranking 2023" (entire university), published on October 12, 2022, the University of Stuttgart was ranked in the group 301-350, which was the same result as the previous year. Compared to the previous year, the University has improved in the areas of "Teaching", "Research" and "International Outlook" and now occupies one of the top places in the ranking group 301-350. In the overall ranking, the University of Stuttgart is now among the top 20 percent of the 1,799 universities worldwide listed in "THE World University Ranking 2023".
