CHE Ranking 2025: Top Marks for Student Support

May 9, 2025, No. 14

Top marks for the subjects of architecture, electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical engineering and aerospace engineering at the University of Stuttgart in the current CHE university ranking.

First-year students feel well supported at the University of Stuttgart, as confirmed for the second consecutive time by this year's CHE university ranking [de] by ZEIT ONLINE. Seven subjects - Architecture, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, German Studies, Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Process Engineering - achieved 11 or more out of a possible 16 points in the "Support at the Start of Studies" category, placing them in the top group.

“The University of Stuttgart also aims for excellence in teaching. Accordingly, students should be offered excellent teaching in terms of content and didactics and outstanding support in terms of organization,” says Prof. Michael-Jörg Oesterle, Vice Rector for Teaching and Continuing Education. “The results of the new CHE ranking show that the support services at the beginning and during our degree courses, as well as the teaching are very well received and also perceived as very good.

Praise for practical teaching and study program organization

Students, especially in engineering subjects, rate the range of courses and the learning infrastructure as good to very good. Civil Engineering awards a commendation for excursions offered. The connection to professional practice received a "very good" rating in both Electrical Engineering and Information Technology as well as Aerospace Engineering and Geodesy. Electrical Engineering and Information Technology also received top marks in three areas: Digital teaching elements, career guidance offerings, and the equipment available in laboratories.

Students of architecture, electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering and geodesy rated the study program organization, the courses on offer and the support they received during their studies as “very good”. Civil Engineering students also expressed a high level of satisfaction with the organization of studies.

Architecture and German Studies received a "very good" rating for completing degrees within a reasonable timeframe

In addition to student evaluations, the CHE ranking also includes facts and figures on studies and research, such as the duration of studies or citations. The University of Stuttgart achieved a total of 18 top ratings for the subjects of civil engineering, electrical engineering and information technology, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering and process engineering. While civil engineering, mechanical engineering, environmental engineering and process engineering at the University of Stuttgart achieve a top ranking in terms of doctorates per professor, electrical engineering and information technology boast an above-average number of citations per publication. Architecture and German Studies secure a top position for completing degrees within a reasonable timeframe.

About the CHE Ranking

With around 120,000 students surveyed and over 300 universities, colleges, and vocational academies evaluated, the CHE University Ranking [de] is the most comprehensive and detailed university comparison for German-speaking countries. In addition to facts about studies, teaching and research, it also assesses how students rate the practical relevance of their degree programs and career preparation measures. The following subjects were included in this survey: Architecture, Civil and Environmental Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Educational Science, German Studies, Mechanical Engineering, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering / Applied Chemistry, Materials Engineering / Materials Science, Environmental Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechatronics, Psychology, and Romance Studies. The results are published in the ZEIT Study Guide 2025/26 and on HeyStudium on ZEIT ONLINE.
