880 runners tackle the TK Campus Run 2018

July 23, 2018

Despite the hot summer temperatures, Hochschulsport Stuttgart has broken its own record. More runners than ever before took part in the two runs on July 19 on the university campus and through Pfaffenwald.

The Campus Run route cut right through everyday uni life, passing the offices, halls of residence, institutions and then through the forest, over the entire Vaihingen Campus. A total of 880 students and university employees tackled the 6km or 12 km routes, despite the hot summer temperatures. Approximately 300 chose to take on the longer distance. Those doing the 6 km run ran around the route once, while those doing the longer distance did the same route twice. Melanie Haag, Head of Hochschulsport, who was responsible for organizing the Campus Run, together with the Techniker health insurance company, is very happy with how the event is progressing: "It’s great that more people participate every year".

Joachim Krauth finished with the fastest time on the 12km route of 39:02 minutes – taking the title for the second year in a row. For the women, Anja Elser took first place with an impressive time of 49:15 minutes. Jessica Wunschmann finished with the fastest time for the 6km race, 24:37 minutes. Sven Zabel won the men’s 6km race with 20:38 minutes.

University Chancellor Jan Gerken, who encouraged university employees to take part in the race, led by example and took on the 6km route through the uni campus. Dr. Simone Rehm, CIO in the rectorate, completed the 12-kilometer route.

But it wasn’t just the individual runners who were placed. The team results were also recorded. The three fastest members of each team were recorded after the run and put together to form a team. The biggest team also received a price at the prize-giving ceremony.
