Highlights and innovations from the industrial application of laser technology are the focus of the 10th Stuttgart Laser Technology Forum (SLT 2018), taking place on 5th and 6th June 2018 parallel to the LASYS Trade Fair in the International Congress Centre Stuttgart (ICS). The organisers are the Institute of Laser Technologies (IFSW) at the University of Stuttgart and die Stuttgart Trade Fair. Around 350 visitors are expected.
Opening: Tuesday, 5th June 2018, 9 am
Venue: International Congress Centre Stuttgart (ICS), Airport, Room C1.2.2.
Representatives of the media are cordially invited. Interview possibility with conference head Professor Thomas Graf approx. 11 am. Possibility to view the test laboratories on 5th June at 6.30 pm, Pfaffenwaldring 43, Stuttgart-Vaihingen.
The focus of the conference will be highlights and innovations from the industrial application of laser technology. The topics of micro and macro material processing as well as the associated laser sources and beam guiding systems will be treated. Along with the latest developments with the classic processes (cutting, welding, drilling, structuring, etc.), current thematic focuses such as generative production or systemic approaches and solutions to increase productivity in particular will be highlighted. In addition the latest advances in the fields of ultra-short pulse lasers, beam guidance, ultrafast scanners as well as beam formation will be presented. An excursion to the fundamentals of laser material processing with a view to possible new fields of application will also be included in the program.
Notable representatives from research and development as well as industry are also expected to attend the conference. For example in this respect on 5th June 2018 Dr Berthold Schmidt from TRUMPF Laser Technology, Ditzingen, will be speaking on the topic of “The Future of Industrial Laser Applications“ as well as Professor Karsten Danzmann from the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics, Hanover, on the topic of “Gravitational Wave Astronomy“.
The highlights on 6th June include the lectures “Laser: The Ideal Universal Tool for Industry 4.0“ by Professor Thomas Graf, Director of the IFSW, as well as the lectures by Thomas Tschentscher, European XFEL, on “The European XFEL – Lasing from free electrons at any wavelength” and by Professor Jörg Wrachtrup, 3rd Physical Institute at the University of Stuttgart, on “Quantum Technology for the real world”.
