Standard Period of Study: 4 semesters
Teaching Language: German

This study program is not offered in English. For further information please visit the German version of the study program.

The Master’s study program in photonic engineering was set up as part of the Stuttgart Research Center of Photonic Engineering (ScoPE). ScoPE bundles the research and teaching competences of twelve institutes in total that span three faculties of the University of Stuttgart and strengthens cooperation with industry.

The organization and contents of the Photonic Engineering study program let students acquire requisite engineering and natural science competences. The following seven advanced modules ensure the program’s professional scope and that its teaching of core skills:

  • Traditional optics
  • Illuminants
  • Optoelectronics
  • Quantum optics
  • Light and matter
  • Signal processing
  • Applied optics

The Master’s studies in photonic engineering lets you specialize in a subject while expanding the basic knowledge acquired in your Bachelor’s study program. The study program is highly research oriented and provides the chance to apply facts learned in practice.

An adaptation module at the beginning of the study program provides a solid knowledge basis in the physical and technical fundamentals of optics. It facilitates entry to the program for holders of Bachelor’s degrees in physics and engineering sciences (such as electrical or mechanical engineering) and other related subjects.

The quality of this degree program has been certified.
