PHYSICS

Master of Science

Start of studies: winter semester
Standard Period of Study: 4 semesters
Teaching Language: English

PHYSICS is a two-year research oriented Master of Science program, divided into four semesters. Students attend lectures, seminars and a laboratory course during the first two semesters and concentrate on their thesis research during the 3rd and 4thsemester.

The elective module offers the chance to focus on either experimental or theoretical physics and the thesis research is conducted within the institutes of the Physics Department of the University of Stuttgart or with a research group at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research.

Excellent graduates of qualified B.Sc. degrees in physics, interested in solid state physics and eager to contribute to fundamental research.

The Department of Physics at the University of Stuttgart and the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research are well known for their outstanding scientific research on solid state physics, atom and quantum optics, photonics, soft matter physics, strongly correlated many-body systems, physical modelling, and numerical simulation. PHYSICS students join the institutes for their one-year research projects and become fully integrated in the work of the group.

PHYSICS graduates mainly pursue academic careers at universities and research laboratories, whereas some choose professional paths in data science, consultancies, or R&D departments.

Studying abroad: what opportunities does the University of Stuttgart have to offer?

Are you interested in going on exchange for a semester or two? Or would you rather do some research or attend a language course? Have you ever thought of joining a Summer School or planned an internship abroad?
