Staatsexamen  Teaching Qualification

Standard Period of Study: 10 semesters
Teaching Language: German

This study program is not offered in English. For further information please visit the German version of the study program.

The five-year, modularized study program state examination for teachers concludes with the 1st State Examination by which students qualify to enter the trainee service preparatory to becoming a high school teacher (teaching practice).

The study program covers the subject areas of linguistics, literature, cultural studies, and language practice as well subject didactics. Basic studies involve an intensification of language training, with the objective of attaining the C2 level of proficiency. The graduate-level studies are flexible and the courses for the most part do not build on each other. You can set individual priorities through a series of electives. This is designed above all to facilitate the integration of study abroad stays with your studies.

Substantiated knowledge of the French language when starting the study program is indispensable. The subject studies do not include learning the French language, but instead build on knowing it already. The program is designed for academic study of the language and literature.

Prospective students should

- be interested in languages and culture
- enjoy reading and writing as well as analyzing
- develop individual initiative, work independently and with precision
- be able to present results achieved in public
- be prepared for a stay abroad
