Philosophy

The focus of the program is a thorough, systematic, and historical education in philosophy. Students are introduced to problems and theories in the traditional areas of philosophy: Metaphysics, epistemology and philosophy of science, aesthetics, philosophy of mind, language, and culture, as well as ethics and political philosophy In doing so, philosophical discussions are also examined in the context of their historical development. The course offerings cover the entire historical spectrum, from the beginnings of philosophy in antiquity to the present day

Good to know

  • Flexibility: The philosophy study program at the University of Stuttgart is fundamentally very open and flexible. Following mandatory introductory courses in the first two semesters, students can largely choose their classes according to their own interests and develop individual research focuses. In particular, in the single-subject program, the field of study is also characterized by a high degree of interdisciplinarity.
  • Think critically. Contribute. Get involved: Active participation in seminar discussions and numerous tutorials, as well as self-study - including preparation and review of course content - are core elements of the philosophy program.
