Whether automotive, electronics, IT, or mechanical engineering: Stuttgart is one of Europe’s leading high-tech locations with internationally renowned major companies, many successful small and medium-sized enterprises, and a vibrant start-up culture. In this cluster of innovation and beyond, the Production Engineering Profile Area of the University of Stuttgart contributes to future-oriented, integrated solutions in the context of Industry 4.0. Close research collaborations with partners from industry and business generate important synergies both for basic research and on the way to industrial applications. In this way, the university and industry make important contributions to optimizing value chains, accelerating the innovation cycle, advancing transformation processes in the areas of digitalization and sustainability, and strengthening Germany’s overall competitiveness. The students also benefit from this - through a practically oriented education and excellent career prospects.

The ARENA2036 (Active Research Environment for the Next Generation) research campus is a flagship for testing new production methods. The unique institution pools the competencies established in the region in lightweight construction and innovative production technologies. The core of ARENA2036 is a flexible research factory on the premises of the University of Stuttgart. In the 10,000 m2 high-tech center, science and industry are jointly developing the integration of cyber simulation and manufacturing in production engineering.
