The lecture series "AI for engineers" presents methods of AI to solve current problems in science and economy in an innovative way by using AI. The lecture series presents the different perspectives of ten lecturers on the field.

In the introductory session, Dennis Hoppe, High-Performance Computing Center Stuttgart (HLRS),will speak on the topic "Converging Pathways: HLRS's AI Evolution in HPC Context".

High performance computers or simply supercomputers are computers that are faster than traditional computers and are therefore able to solve very complex problems. Supercomputers use the concept of program parallelism to significantly shorten the time required to find the solution. This concept of pure performance not only characterized the beginnings of the supercomputing era in the 1970s, but still largely determines the development of such systems today. However, a transformation is currently taking place, driven by the importance, and increasing complexity of AI models that require immense computing power. HLRS is at the forefront of this evolution, integrating AI and HPC to address these challenges.

This presentation focuses on the HLRS's involvement in AI activities. The presentation provides an overview of the development of AI solutions at HLRS. One example is hybrid workflows that combine classical simulations with AI methods, which is relevant in the engineering sciences. This presentation will address the hardware, software, and programming language challenges of converging HPC with emerging technologies such as AI.

Lecture series "AI for engineers" in the framework of the project IKILeUS (HLRS / IHR). Valid as interdisciplinary key qualification FüSQ and in the thematic field module T9 Engineering Sciences but also for interested non-specialists.
