Once again, the University of Stuttgart ranks among the world's best

June 2, 2025

As in previous years, the University of Stuttgart has secured top international positions in the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR).

The Center for World University Rankings (CWUR), based in the United Arab Emirates, is targeting a total of almost 21,500 universities - around 500 more than in 2024 - in its latest ranking edition from June 2, 2025. In this global comparison, the University of Stuttgart ranks 555th out of 21,462 and is therefore - as in the previous year - among the top 2.6 percent of all universities worldwide.

This result is based on three outstanding individual rankings: In the indicator “Education”, the University of Stuttgart achieved 133rd place, placing it in the top 0.6 percent of all universities worldwide. The University also performs excellently when it comes to the professional success of its alumni ("Employability”) — as reflected in the number of leadership positions held in the business sector. In this category it ranked 431st worldwide and placing it among the top 2 percent of institutions assessed. Another top result is reflected in the indicator “Research”: With a ranking of 584, the University of Stuttgart is among the top 2.7 percent worldwide.

About the CWUR University Ranking

The CWUR university ranking, published since 2012, is not based on surveys or self-reported data from the institutions evaluated. Instead, it relies on independently researched indicators, which are grouped into four categories. The most heavily weighted category, accounting for 40 percent of the overall score, is research performance. This is measured using four indicators: The number of scientific publications ("Research Output"), publications in prestigious journals, research influence, and citations. Teaching quality (“Education”), assessed by CWUR through the academic success of a university’s graduates; and the “Employability” category, which considers alumni in top positions, each contribute 25 percent to the overall ranking score. The number of academics with major academic distinctions (“Faculty”) accounts for 10 percent of the overall score.
