Teachers and students are involved in teacher training or teaching study programs every day. They have experience and can recognize needs and know where innovative ideas could make a big difference. Five universities affiliated with the Professional School of Education Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg (PSE) are supporting their commitment and solution-oriented proposals as part of an annual call for tender digital.macht.schule.

Five universities in the Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg region are cooperating to develop teacher training in a profession-oriented manner within the framework of the Professional School of Education Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg (PSE) and are committed to a cooperative design of the courses offered.

The "digital.macht.schule" project, which is funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts, aims to promote cooperation between schools and universities at various levels in the field of digitalization/digital transformation.

Numerous colleagues at the universities are already working together with school administrators, teachers, and schools to address current challenges in the area of digitalization. These challenges are not always only of a technical nature, but also include the effects of digitalization on the everyday school life of teachers and school students, as well as on aspects of organizational development.

What's new?

At the end of 2021, the KOALA innovation initiatives were put out to tender for the last time for the time being. However, the project and research initiatives of the PSE collaborative project "digital.macht.schule", offers us all a new tool in 2023 that will provide financial support for collaborative projects for a limited period. There are many similarities in the application process for digital.macht.schule and the KOALA call for tenders; however, there are also two key differences:

  1. With the project and research initiatives in digital.macht.schule, we would like to focus on strengthening the collaboration between universities and schools. For this reason, only initiatives in which a university or several universities cooperate with at least one school will be funded.

  2. Funding is available for projects that focus on the topic of digitalization/digital transformation.

Ideas for school-university cooperation are in demand

In 2023, as part of these project and research initiatives, the Professional School of Education Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg is looking for ideas on how school-university cooperation in the Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg region in the field of digitization / digital transformation can be supported with financial resources. The focus here is on ideas that can promote cross-institutional and cross-phase exchanges between university faculty, students, school administrators, teachers, and scientists.

The PSE is looking forward to collaborations that include teaching methodology, educational science or media pedagogical approaches, as well as possible ways of approaching organizational and personnel development.
Preference will be given to initiatives that develop and implement specific solutions to current challenges in everyday school life and school development in the area of digitalization/digital transformation. The focus is on teaching methodology and curricular challenges, effects on the everyday school life of teachers and students, as well as on aspects of organizational and personnel development. Transferability to other schools/school forms, other teaching methodologies etc. should also be possible.

Possible initiatives include:

  • The implementation of joint teaching events at universities or offers aimed at schools

  • Joint conferences and workshops for schools and universities on subject-related or interdisciplinary topics in the context of digitalization/digital transformation

  • Cooperative research projects in the area of digitalization/digital transformation, the findings of which must be put into practice in schools during the funding period

  • Measures that promote networking between two or more phases of teacher training

The application deadline is Friday November 4, 2022. From the applications received, a selection committee will make a funding decision based on selected criteria. These criteria, eligibility requirements, and the application form can be found on the PSE website.
