Cluster of Excellence Simulation Technology

SimTech LogoIn the 21st century's society, simulation technology has become completely indispensable, it dominates all areas of life. The cluster Simulation Technology (SimTech), approved with the certificate “excellent” by the experts of the German Research Foundation (DFG), is embedded in the Stuttgart Research Centre for Simulation Technology. Together, it represents a massive platform for further developing scientific methods and techniques in all branches of modelling and simulation techniques.

SimTech_052The cluster creates the scientific basis for a huge variety of applications, e.g. concerning product development as well as environmental technology and complex biomechanics. Methodically SimTech concentrates on the following research areas: molecular dynamics, mechanics of multi-scale and multi-field problems, numerical mathematics, systems analysis, data management and interactive visualization. Additionally, SimTech uses hybrid high performance computing and offers and integrative platform of reflection and evaluation.

SimTech_228The Stuttgart Research Centre for Simulation Technology and the cluster “Simulation Technology” is also a platform for opening excellent young researchers an inspiring scientific environment: With a graduate school with more than 80 PhD students, an elite study programme on BSc and MSc level with up to 30 students per year, seven PostDoc positions and up to 13 junior professors, two of them sponsored by the industry, one by Daimler AG and one by Robert Bosch GmbH. In June 2011 the cluster will host the International Conference on Simulation Technology (SimTech 2011).
