Research focus areas and projects
The University of Stuttgart conducts research in a wide range of areas in energy engineering.
At the Institute for Building Energetics, Thermotechnology and Energy Storage (IGTE), researchers investigate how comfortable living and working conditions in buildings and neighborhoods can be combined with energy efficiency, sustainability, and advanced technology. Scientists at the Institute for Energy Process Engineering and Dynamics in Energy Systems (IED) conduct research into the combustion and gasification of fuels and methods of reducing emissions.
The aim of the Discursive Transformation of Energy Systems (DiTEnS [de]) research network at the Institute of Power Transmission and High Voltage Technology (IEH) is to provide digital support for decision-making on electricity and heat supply in urban areas, thereby helping to achieve the political goal of climate neutrality in a coordinated, economically viable, socially acceptable, energy-resilient manner while ensuring security of supply. Research at the Institute of Electrical Energy Conversion (IEW) covers two main areas: electrical machines and wireless power transmission.
