Study program structure and content
During the first three semesters, you will acquire the fundamental skills in computer science and media informatics – ranging from mathematics and theoretical foundations to practical applications – and build on your programming expertise. Starting in the third semester, you will deepen your knowledge, gain new experiences, and be able to choose your own areas of focus from three catalogs of electives. In the elective track, you can also choose a specialized field of study to specifically prepare for your future career.

Most courses are conducted in the form of traditional lectures. These are usually lectures held in large lecture halls…
…and accompanying exercises in smaller classrooms, led by student tutors. These courses are usually concluded with a written exam.
Students are encouraged to learn independently right from the beginning, through projects and seminars. In projects, students work in teams on a scientific or practical problem, for example, by programming a piece of software. They are supervised in small groups by professors and academic staff of the department.
The results of projects from the Software Engineering and Computer Science programs are presented to the entire department on Project Day. This is a kind of internal conference where students present their work and draw inspiration from the projects of others.
