Job & career

Civil engineers build and construct structures, e.g.

  • Schools, residential complexes, company buildings
  • Tunnels, bridges, dams
  • Subway lines, road networks, airports
  • and much more.

Each building project must be individually planned and implemented. For this purpose, civil engineers create, for example, static calculations and construction plans. To ensure that each individual building meets the respective requirements, there is a lot to consider, and every construction project brings new challenges that require new and creative solutions.

Civil engineers work at:

  • Construction companies
  • Engineering or consulting firms
  • Companies for prefabricated parts and building materials
  • State authorities and offices (e.g. civil engineering offices, municipal utilities, regional councils, ministries)
  • Transport companies (e.g. Deutsche Bahn AG, airports)
  • Real estate development or management companies
  • Manufacturers of specialized software
  • Research institutions (universities, Fraunhofer Institutes, Max Planck Society)

Those who wish to work abroad also have excellent opportunities.   Many companies are looking for engineers who are willing to work abroad.
