Key research areas and projects
Engineering Cybernetics is a research-driven discipline that encompasses both fundamental research in systems and control theory and applications in fields such as robotics, medical systems, and renewable energy. Our institutes are involved in all major research networks at the University (BiTS, SimTech, IntCDC, Cyber Valley) and collaborate with external partners such as Fraunhofer IPA and the MPI-IS. This strong research environment creates excellent opportunities for academic careers; around 50% of our graduates go on to pursue a PhD.
Infrastructure for study and research
- Institute for Systems Theory and Automatic Control (IST)
Research at the IST is characterized by a theoretical and methodological approach to problems related to systems theory and automatic control. - Institute for System Dynamics (ISYS)
ISYS's research interests include large-scale robotics, medical engineering, construction technologies, automotive systems, and optical applications. - Institute for Adaptive Mechanical Systems (IAMS)
The IAMS explores new approaches to robotics by integrating insights from classical mechanics, nonlinear dynamics, control theory, and materials science. - Institute for Nonlinear Mechanics (INM)
Nonlinear Mechanics is a research field on the boundary between Applied Mechanics and Applied Mathematics and encompasses Analytical Mechanics, Nonlinear Dynamics, Multibody Dynamics and Structural Mechanics. - Institute for Diversity Studies in Engineering (IDS)
The research at the Institute for Diversity Studies focuses on the question of how diversity and differences in socio-technical systems can contribute to innovation under the conditions of digital transformation.
