Study program structure and content
The first semesters
In the first semesters, students must build a foundation of both methodological and subject-specific knowledge. The foundational phase of the program therefore consists primarily of compulsory modules. In practical courses, students work in teams to tackle assignments, carry out experiments or development processes, analyze the results, and evaluate them.
Your studies
During the latter half of the program (5th and 6th semesters), students focus on specialization, choosing courses from three elective categories.
- Electrical energy systems with a focus on photovoltaics and wind energy.
- Thermal energy systems with a focus on biomass and solar thermal energy.
- Kinetic energy systems with a focus on wind energy and hydropower.

Get a glimpse of how the study program works.
Our students learn to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical context from an early stage. In the advanced phase of the program, students carry out a project in which they work in teams on a practical assignment – for example, constructing a PV system for the e-mobility container.
Various practical projects are offered, which students can choose according to their specializations and interests. In the "Renewable Energy Practical Courses" module, for example, students conduct experiments on smart grids, synchronous machines, biomass, solar thermal energy, hydropower, wind energy, and photovoltaics.
In the "PowerPerspectives" project, Bachelor’s students highlight the importance of renewable energies through short, informative videos on social media.
Students work on new research topics, such as the development of perovskite solar cells.
Field trips also provide professional perspectives and insights into the research, development, and practical application of renewable energies.
Of course, having fun is also important. During the semester, renewable energy engineering students gather for various events, such as this public viewing, for example.
