Study program structure and content
The content of the program has essentially three main focuses:
- Approximately 60 percent of the program covers engineering subjects in real estate technology, building technology, architecture and urban planning, structural engineering, and digitalization.
- Approximately 30 percent is devoted to basic subjects in real estate management (valuation, marketing, management).
- Approximately 10 percent of these relate to real estate law.
There is also the option of individual specialization: Elective modules can be combined from a diverse range of subjects. In addition, modules are offered for acquiring key qualifications such as presentation skills, languages, and social skills.

The majority of the courses in this subject consist of lectures that require preparation and follow-up work. During the first semesters, students receive basic training in areas such as advanced mathematics, technical mechanics, building physics, and economics.
The elective modules of the bachelor's program are divided into five profile lines. The profile lines correspond to possible fields of activity in later professional life.
How many cranes of what type are needed on a construction site? Which location should be chosen for this?
Through the simulation of construction projects and digital replication (the “digital twin”), all relevant building data is captured, networked, and combined digitally. Building Information Modeling (BIM) plays an essential role in this process.
The smooth interaction between humans, machines, and structures will continue to grow in importance in the future. As a Real Estate Engineering and Management student, you will examine current trends in this field.
Communication and coordination between those involved in construction projects remains a key component of such projects. This requires teamwork and organizational talent.
The networking of data and information (known as “big data”) is a key driver of innovation in the construction industry.
The life cycle of a property can be divided into six phases. They can be assigned to areas of application in the disciplines of architecture (1), civil engineering (2), business administration (3), and real estate engineering & management (IuI) (4). The Real Estate Engineering and Management program gives you the opportunity to become actively involved in all six phases of real estate.
A group of students work together on a “homework assignment”. Homework assignments are written assignments that are coordinated and submitted collectively.
In colloquiums, students work in small groups to discuss homework assignments and specific lecture topics. They are questioned on the material, share their individual viewpoints, and present their findings.
As part of so-called “elective modules,” our students participate in individually tailored lectures. This also includes workshops or practical studies in cooperation with partners from industry.
