Information – the raw material of the future!

In the age of digitalization and networking, computer science has become a fundamentally important science. It has become indispensable in business, research, medicine, mobility, and communication. All these areas of application are based on the systematic and automated processing of information. The Bachelor's study program in computer science therefore provides in-depth knowledge in all core areas of the subject:

  • Theoretical computer science: This field deals with the modeling of questions, computability, and the complexity of problems.
  • Practical computer science: This involves the development of concrete solution concepts and algorithms.
  • Computer engineering: This focuses on hardware.

Good to know

  • A very broad range of courses, allowing for individual specialization during the course of study.
  • A high proportion of practice-oriented teaching: Students are introduced to practical work early on in their studies. Students benefit from the department’s research strengths, as the latest findings are consistently and rapidly integrated into their education.
  • Excellent job prospects: 60 percent of our graduates secure employment immediately after graduation, and within four months, all graduates from a given cohort have obtained a suitable position.
  • Buddy or mentoring program: The International Office offers two support programs to international students who are about to start their studies at the University of Stuttgart. Click here to find out more!
  • Learning German: Find out how to learn German before and during your studies and read our tips on fun ways to practice. Click here to find out more!
  • Student Counseling Center (ZSB): The ZSB provides you with information and advice to help you choose the right study program, supports you in starting your studies and helps you to succeed. Click here to find out more!
  • Advice and assistance: Finding the right contact person is not always easy. Click here to find the responsible persons for various issues.
  • MINT Kolleg Baden-Württemberg: The MINT Kolleg prepares you for a degree program in STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, engineering). It also offers support for students in the introductory phase of their studies. Click here to find out more!
  • MentorING: Student tutors from higher semesters support you in the MentorING program, together with mentors (professors), through group meetings to help you get started with your studies. Click here to find out more! [de]
  • Academic advice: Our academic advisors and study program management team are your first points of contact for all questions (and problems) relating to studying at the Department of Computer Science, to which this program belongs. Find out more!

  • Do you want to study abroad for a semester? During your Bachelor's study program, you have many options to gain international experience. Exchange programs, partner universities and scholarships make it easier to go abroad. Find out more about your options!

Computer Science as a minor subject

Computer science is relevant in all areas of our daily lives. This means that computer science skills are also needed in other industries. In order to keep pace with this development, a Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in computer science can be useful. In such cases, the BA program consists of a major in the humanities or social sciences and a minor in computer science. Computer science as a minor subject accounts for a significantly smaller proportion of the degree program than the respective major subject and essentially teaches the methodology and fundamental content of computer science.
